The driving mission behind the Powell School at the City College of New York is to be a leading center for social research, expertise, learning, and leadership. An important part of this ongoing effort is to disseminate research and public policy information to concerned audiences, particularly those working to redress social, political or economic disparities. So it is with great enthusiasm that we officially announce our new series of public breakfast talks, Conversations with City.

Conversations with City is a dynamic and stimulating addition to event programming at the Powell School. The series serves as an open forum for experts, policymakers, community leaders, and others attempting to meet the major challenges of the nation and the world.

The first talk in this series occurred in late September and featured speakers Michele Dunne of the Carnegie Endowment and former director of the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East, and Barnard’s Political Science Professor Mona El Ghobashy.

Our next event, “Gender Violence, Masculinities and the Search for Women’s Security in South Asia,” will take place Thursday, October 31 and features Babar Bashir, who works with men and boys in Pakistan around issues of gender violence, and the Powell School’s Patricia Ackerman of the Women’s Studies department. And on November 11, Fulvio Dobrich and Vasili Tsamis will present a breakfast lecture on economic restructuring and debt forgiveness, which is included in the Powell School’s interdisciplinary set of colloquia that will explore the concept of forgiveness over the academic year.

Breakfast programs run from 8 AM – 10 AM throughout the academic year and take place at the City College of New York campus or at the University Club in midtown Manhattan. Events will be added to the Powell School calendar throughout the year. For more information, please visit our website or call 212.650.7396.
